Simone’s
Sightline Story
I received an Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) diagnosis in 2019. Currently my vision is very blurred in my left eye with my right eye not quite as bad just now. I consider myself lucky though as I live with my husband, and I do have a great family who come and visit.
I reached out to Sightline because although my family have been and are wonderfully supportive, there wasn’t the understanding or experience of what it is like living with progressive sight loss.
My telephone befriender calls me each week and we talk about all sorts of things. She’s a really nice lady and is a great support to me as she also has AMD.
I really look forward to our calls and even though I have only been using Sightline’s Telephone Befriending Service for a short while, I know I’d be lost without it.
“Who’d have thought a phone call a week with someone in a similar position to me would make such a difference to how I feel about life and the challenges for someone living with an eye condition?“
If like Simone, you might benefit from a telephone befriending relationship with one of our trained, friendly volunteers please get in touch.
