Dawn’s
Sightline Story

I am blind in one eye and have cataracts in both. My vision in my better eye is deteriorating weekly and I need my white cane all the time when I am out and about now.

People don’t always understand disabilities, so I sometimes find it difficult to maintain relationships for that reason. I have been seeking employment for years now but just can’t seem able to find my ideal role. I will be starting to volunteer for the cathedral where I live very soon, helping them to “meet & greet” visitors. I am really looking forward to that.

I live on my own and my grown-up son does come and visit. He will help me with anything I need like the shopping or odd jobs around the house. He does have his own life to live so I don’t like to bother him too much.

My Sightline befriender is lovely, so I really look forward to Fridays when our call is scheduled.

Kelly is so friendly; we have a great time chatting about all sorts of things. Pets are a regular talking point; she has a guide dog and I have a cat so there’s always some “tail” or two with the mischief they’ve been up to that week!

I feel less lonely due to our conversations over the past two years. I love our friendship over the phone and hope that it continues well into the future.

If you would benefit from a telephone befriending relationship please get in touch today.
