Kara Ayres

Kara is a volunteer with Sightline and joined the board of trustees in November 2024.

I have worked for a number of organisations in both the financial and charity sectors; most of my job roles have involved communication and administration, co-ordinating and supporting volunteers for charities, including the RNIB.

I last worked in 2014 but have since filled my days with a variety of volunteering roles, including working with animal charities, helping to manage an internet radio station run by and for blind people and most recently as a volunteer telephone befriender for Sightline.

I was drawn to the telephone befriending position, because of my experience in a similar volunteer role as a telephone group facilitator and a previous job role as a volunteer co-ordinator. I have experienced the isolation sight loss can cause personally and want to help alleviate it for others.

I’ve learned a lot in my role as a telephone befriender, and hope to bring that practical experience to the Sightline board.
