Debbie’s
Sightline Story
I have a sight condition called dominant cone dystrophy. I have real issues with light and need to wear sunglasses and require additional coverage including hats or extra glasses to try and further protect my eyes from daylight.
I live on my own and unfortunately can’t have a guide dog due to a spine operation. I don’t have any close friends or family close by so can feel very isolated at times. I did enjoy some sporting activities prior to the pandemic but these aren’t restarting anytime soon.
I have a good relationship with my befriender; we hit it off straight away and I have looked forward to our weekly calls ever since. Going days without speaking to anyone is really isolating but knowing my befriender will call on a set day and time helps me focus on something to look forward to.
“I have used the Sightline telephone befriending service throughout the pandemic. I really enjoy the discussions we have and having someone to talk to during what has been such an isolating time has been a great help to me.“
(Name has been changed to protect service user identity).
If you would benefit from a telephone befriending relationship like Debbie, we are ready for your call.
