Mavis’
Sightline Story
I have glaucoma and have lost almost all my sight now. I can see a little better outdoors than if I were inside but if it’s a sunny day the sun really hurts my eyes.
I live in a nursing home so am lucky to be able to socialise with others. I like to take part in some of the organized activities at the home; bingo, quizzes and seasonal events at easter and christmas are some of my favourite things. I feel lucky that I have a daughter who frequently visits me too.
My weekly phone calls with my telephone befriender Sue are great; we are both visually impaired but always manage to cheer each other up if we’re having a bad week.
Sue has recently helped me set up the talking books on my Alexa. When my eyesight wasn’t as bad as it is now, I loved to read lots of different books. Now I’ll happily spend an afternoon listening to a few chapters, I’m not missing out anymore!

I think if I didn’t have the weekly calls from Sightline my mental wellbeing would be a lot worse off; I’m really glad I was referred to use the service.

Sightline arranged for 2 telephone befrienders to each call me once a week. I really like the fact that both are completely different people; we have lots of opportunities to discuss a whole range of topics.
If you would benefit from a telephone befriending relationship please get in touch today.
